The Art Workshop is an art project for mental challenged people.

The project exists of two art disciplines: visual arts (Atelier Artis-tiek) and theatre (Theater Kamak).In total 36 people take part in the Art Workshop.

The 30 pictorial artists work together in Atelier Artistiek, during two up to five days a week. Some of these artists are also a member of the theater group.In 2005 Atelier Artistiek exists 16 years.

The main purpose of Atelier Artistiek is to create a possibility in which a mental challenged artist can develop himself. The artistic expression has to grow. For some artists it takes a few years before they create a real work of art. Time is not important in Atelier Artistiek. The most important thing is to have a positive atmosphere which creates self-reliance and maturity.

It is very positive that these artists are really self made. The only lessons they get are lessons in technical skills, for example graphical skills.

Every mental challenged person who wants to express himself through art has teh right to do so and has the chance to become an artist. The task of Atelier Artistiek is to create the opportunity.
